Routine dental exams are important for maintaining good oral (and overall) health. But what exactly happens during a dental exam? What can patients expect?
Routine Dental Examination
This is the most common type of dental exam. During a routine checkup, Dr. Bridges will clean your teeth and check your teeth for any signs of decay or other problems. We may also take x-rays to check for issues that can't be seen with the naked eye, like cavities between your teeth.
Comprehensive Oral Evaluation
A comprehensive oral evaluation is another common type of dental exam. During a comprehensive oral evaluation, Dr. Bridges will thoroughly examine your mouth, teeth, gums, and throat. He will also ask you questions about your oral health history and any changes or concerns you may have. X-rays may also be taken during a comprehensive oral evaluation.
Periodic Oral Evaluation
A periodic oral evaluation is similar to a comprehensive oral evaluation, but it is less extensive. Periodic oral evaluations are typically used for patients diagnosed with periodontal disease or another condition requiring more frequent monitoring.
Limited Oral Evaluation
A limited oral evaluation is when Dr. Bridges only needs to focus on a specific area of concern. For example, if you are experiencing pain in a particular tooth, we may recommend an oral evaluation to determine the cause of the pain and develop a treatment plan. This type of exam is also beneficial for consultations for treatments, such as Invisalign, dental crowns, and dental implants.
