Will I be unconscious during sedation?

The thought of dental work can make you feel vulnerable, anxious, or even afraid. If you're considering dental sedation at Smile Station, you might wonder what to expect and whether you’ll be fully asleep or still aware of your surroundings.

Our dental team doesn’t want fear to stand in the way of the treatment you deserve. And our sedation offerings can help you get the care you need.

Will I Be Unconscious during Sedation?

Whether you choose nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation, you'll be conscious during your dental procedure. Here’s what you need to know about our sedation offerings:

  • Nitrous oxide — This breathable gas helps you relax and feel at ease during your appointment. It’s safe and wears off quickly once we remove the inhalation mask from your face. You can drive home after your procedure with no side effects.
  • Oral conscious sedation — If you’re a candidate for this type of sedation, we’ll prescribe a pill for you to take an hour before your procedure, allowing for a deeper level of relaxation. You may not remember your appointment, but you’ll be conscious. You will need someone to drive you to and from our dental office.
